Being cool at the blackjack table (Part 2)

February 5, 2007

Continued from...0

So, when online gambling or playing blackjack in a land based casino, we are saying that there really is not way to be psychic – you will never know what the next card will be 100%. Even card counting has become pretty obsolete, so you cannot rely on that.

As we just said in part one of this online gambling informational article, splitting tens is not poison all the time. Just as you cannot truly know what the next card will be 100% of the time – you also cannot say for certain that you will NOT come out ahead splitting those good old tens.

Being cool, calm and collected at the blackjack table is essential – even at online casinos. When you find yourself sitting at a casino or even at an online gambling site with a chat room (while playing), stick to what your gut tells you  - barring in mind the strategy fro this great casino game. Let the other guys laugh and have fun making their comments, but reserve your judgment for your own game play.

And what might the other players do when they actually DO see a free thinking player make this supposed dumb play for reasons that they actually do not even recognize exists? These online casino black jack players might well get spooked enough to leave the table, making room for that other (would be) player that wanted the seat – amen.

Rarely do you find someone in a casino with the best advice that speaks freely. Most veteran blackjack players keep to themselves, but are cordial. After all, you are not playing against each other – you are playing against the casino or online gambling site right? But, just like you never know what the next cards is really going to be – maybe the guy speaking freely does know what he is doing. This is precisely why you have to understand the game FOR YOURSELF. Know the strategy properly and make decisions for yourself. Your are gambling at the casino as it is, why gamble additionally on what the stranger next to you says – or that ever present bystander just watching the game. Think and play at online casinos and land based casinos for yourself – unless your wife is there that is.

Seriously though, that way of thinking (from other people’s advice) is yet one more illogical way that classic players hurt themselves with. If a truly bad player doubles down on a soft 19 for no good reason, it really does not hurt anybody else's probability at the table. This subject has been analyzed and explained in many gambling books by pros. Just feel the table out before you go crazy with the tens – then again, the guy after you will have to find another table as lang as you were there first that is. Show etiquette, but do not hamper your game for another person’s feeling either. Again, do not become a reckless player – it will do you no good or the guy after you whose cards you keep taking.

Then there is the ideology that says cards have no memory. So, just because statistically you may be taking a valued card away from the guy after you, it is not a sure thing either…just try telling this to the average player though right?

What’s more, if an expert makes the same play because a beneficial shoe has developed, and you leave the blackjack table because you do not want to play with dreadful players, you are actually most likely costing yourself some money – oh the list goes on and on.

The great thing about reading online gambling and land based gambling articles such as this one, is that you truly are becoming more aware of situations that often occur at the tables and in the casinos. You can then use that background info to make better decisions.

So, when you are sitting at a blackjack table next time, and someone at your table makes a bizarre looking play with their hand, do not be so quick to judge. Be cool at the blackjack table. It is true, that player might just be making a beginner's mistake, and in that case their play does not concern your own odds for winning that hand.

On the flip side (isn’t there always a flip side?), that player might be playing at a level above you and if you leave now, you may well be turning your back on a lucrative shoe situation.
